When I decided
to write a book about my late father’s life I sought an experienced
professional writer and after considerable research, subsequently
engaged Tina Blackmur. My late father Reg Smith was killed in
a motor racing accident at Mt Panorama in 1960 at the age of
57. During his life he had been a well known motor dealer,
racing car identity, owned radio and television retail shops and
dealt in movie cameras, projectors, etc. As he was associated
with many high calibre, successful and “street smart” people I
commissioned Tina to conduct interviews with them to gain an
historical account of his life from their viewpoint. During
the time that I have been working with Tina I have been extremely
impressed with her ability to establish rapport with a diverse
group of people which has resulted in an accurate, absorbing and
highly entertaining account of Reg Smith’s life. I have no
hesitation in recommending Tina’s services to anyone contemplating
investigating and documenting the life of a loved one.

My
mother has an interesting life, and is something of a poet.
Some time before she turned 75, our family decided that it was time
to record her poetry and her life’s experiences so that there would
be a permanent record available to her descendants and
friends. The problem was, who would write the book? Not
long before mum’s birthday I was fortuitously introduced to
freelance writer Tina Blackmur, of Write Creations. Tina
showed my wife and me some examples of her work, and we were
sufficiently encouraged to commission Tina to travel to New Zealand
and interview mum. Of course we had alerted mum to Tina’s
visit, and later we were pleased to hear that mum found Tina a
person in whom she could confide and trust with her
reminiscences.
Tina
transcribed her recordings into a draft for our approval, and was
able to oversee all the technicalities associated with the
production of the booklet: formatting, photograph layout, typeface
styles, indexing & etc. When decisions had to be made,
she kept us fully informed and offered us her experience as a
guide.
The
book became a reality and we were so pleased to see mum’s face when
the book was presented to her! In fact, we were so impressed with
Tina’s efforts that when my wife’s mother turned 95, we
commissioned Tina to create another book.
What
better recommendation can I offer?
